If this situation sounds familiar, you’re not alone.
Even those of us who are energy aware can get distracted easily and end up in our heads when we are super busy.
3 Easy Tips to Get Grounded
- Be the Tree
- Eat Grounding Foods
- BONUS TIP!
Use these tips to bring yourself back into the present, into your body and connected to the earth. Then you’ll be strong and ready to take on anything!
If you signed up to be part of the Self Care for Your Spirit HigheVribe Tribe, you probably saw that note in your welcome letter about breathing, right? Did you try it? Well, there’s a reason it’s number 1 on my list. When we hold our breath we constrict our diaphragm which tells our nervous system that we are in fight or flight mode. And some days f-or-f is totally legit. But if you’re feeling like that more and more, especially when you should be relaxing, you’re ungrounded and need to take a big breath. So big breathe in… hold for 3 seconds, then let it go with a big whoosh!
2. Be the Tree
This technique is an oldie and a goodie for a reason – it works for pretty much everyone. If you are visual, imagine roots or a grounding cord descending down out of your body into the earth to connect with its stabilizing energy. If you are tactile, focus on your feet touching the floor and think of that connection which is holding you up and stable. Audiophile? Imagine the sound of your feet when you walk in the forest and are feeling connected.
3. Eat Grounding Foods
Definitely my favourite one on the list. Buuut it doesn’t mean that you have license to go mental at holiday goodies table, and no a double spiced chai peppermint green tea ice latte smoothie does not count. ! What I’m talking about here is earth energy dense foods like root vegetables, nuts and dark greens.
Why does this work? Energetically you are taking in solid earth energies from the nuts, roots and living plants that you are ingesting. Physically because when your body starts to digest brings you into the present moment and helps to keep you grounded. Plus these foods help to keep your blood sugar stable – and you’ll be more likely to eat those 1-2 cookies and enjoy the heck out of them rather than just mindlessly shoveling down a plateful. Trust me I know.
Bonus Tip: Forward bending
This is one of my favourite things to do! Not only does it help your body destress, it makes it hard to think about other things when you’re bent forward trying not to tip over… just kidding! But seriously you can do this a couple times during the day and instantly feel better. Plus it gives you a reason to sneak off to the bathroom and have a little me time if you’re at work or need a moment away from friends and family.
Be mindful you don’t hold your breath as that will just make you lightheaded and defeat the purpose of this exercise. If you’re new to forward bending, start by leaning forward and putting your palms just above your slightly bent knees. Support your weight and gently let your head fall forward. See if you can let go of any tension on your neck and back.
You can hold anywhere from 5 to 20 seconds and then s-l-o-w-l-y use your hands to push yourself back up into standing. Did I say go slowly? Yep. Do that.
Now be the tree for a second, make sure you feel stable, feet connected to the ground and off you go ready to take on the next challenge!
So now Id love to hear from you!
